31st July

Yesterday was another traveling day. We left Daly Waters fairly early to head towards Katherine. We made it into Katherine at around lunch time, once set up we headed into town for more supplies and a few things we found we needed. We spent the rest of the afternoon doing housekeeping chores around the caravan and planning our stay here. We were booked into the caravan for 3 nights, but after looking at all the things we wanted to do we decided to extend our stay by 2 nights.

Today we went to Edith Falls, this is 49km’s from Katherine and 16km’s from the turn off. When we arrived there we found a campground and a picnic ground with a few walks to do. These were short walks that lead to a lower fall with a swimming hole at the bottom. Then there was a 2.5km’s walk which we decided to do that had the promise of another swimming hole in the middle.

When we reached the swimming hole there were lots of people taking advantage of the great weather to enjoy a dip in the cool water. We had to clamber across rocks to get to the swimming holes and we floated along with river currents. After the walk back to the car we had a picnic lunch on the grass under a shady tree, then we headed back to the campground for another swim in the camp pool.
